The Town of Babylon has scheduled a public hearing on a new set of guidelines for the downtown Wyandanch revitalization project.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Town Hall in Lindenhurst. At issue is the adoption of a code for the Straight Path corridor in Wyandanch as part of the Wyandanch Rising redevelopment.

The code is detailed and will address everything from architectural standards to green building standards, said Vanessa Pugh, director of downtown revitalization. Developers who adhere to the code will have a streamlined application process, she said.

“What this code does is it guards and directs and creates a framework for the feel of a place,” said Pugh. “It’s really an amazing tool that allows us to have some certainty about the quality of the development and the outcome.”

She said such a comprehensive code has rarely been done in the state and that she knew of no other examples on Long Island.

Babylon Town Hall is at 200 East Sunrise Hwy., Lindenhurst.
