The new district boundaries were drafted after the task force conducted 14 public hearings around the state, taking 55 hours of testimony from more than 375 witnesses.

"The new district lines are the result of the most open and transparent reapportionment process in decades. It is now critically important that the public throughout New York State has a variety of opportunities to voice their input on the Task Force's plan," Sen. Michael F. Nozzolio, task force co-chairman, said in a statement. "Public hearings will be held in every region across the State, and interested individuals and groups are encouraged to provide the Task Force with written email and direct mail comments."

"Our proposal is responsive to the many individuals across the State who offered oral or written testimony to the Task Force. In addition, we took into consideration and incorporated many elements of proposals submitted in map form by numerous voting rights and good government groups, private citizens and public officials," said Assemb. John McEneny. "We are grateful to them all for helping us with this Constitutionally-mandated task and look forward to further interaction and suggestions as we make our way across the state a second time to receive more input still."
