Helping End Violence Now moves to Mineola

Helping End Violence Now, a nonprofit group that addresses youth and gang violence on Long Island, has moved its headquarters to a larger building in Mineola.

Founded in 2000, Helping End Violence Now is a coalition of faith-based ministries, law enforcement agencies, school districts, businesses and community organizations. The group’s headquarters moved from a one-room office in Hempstead Village. The new location, which was funded in part through a partnership with Nassau County, will provide enough space for the organization to expand, said Bishop J. Raymond Mackey, the group’s executive director.

The additional space will be especially important as Helping End Violence Now expands to an international organization, Mackey said. A chapter has been created in South Carolina, and more are planned in Jamaica and Ghana.

On Long Island, Helping End Violence Now provides more than two dozen services, including classes on fatherhood, visits with prisoners at the Nassau County jail, a program on manhood at Roosevelt High School, a career network, a basketball league, a law clinic and numerous community gatherings.
