The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is hosting a seminar in an effort to find foster families and volunteers who can assist in caring for homeless animals.

The free foster care and volunteering seminar, led by animal shelter staff, will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 8,  in the animal shelter, 3320 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh.

The one-hour seminar will provide an overview of the shelter’s programs, and detail the requirements and procedures for becoming involved. Volunteer applications will be available.

General volunteers will be assigned to a range of different tasks at the shelter.

Through the shelter’s foster program, a family temporarily adopts a shelter cat or dog to help the animal become more comfortable living in a home environment. Foster families also have the option to adopt the animal.

For more information, call the shelter at 516-785-5220 or visit www.toh.li/animal-shelter.
