Hempstead announces child car seat inspections
Officials from the Town of Hempstead will inspect child car seats again this year to ensure they are properly installed.
Certified technicians will be on hand beginning in March to install car seats, give advice on appropriate car seats and provide information about recalls or defects.
Town Supervisor Kate Murray said the town’s technicians installed more than 500 car seats for residents last year.
“We hope that many more families with infants and young children will avail themselves of this free program this year,” she said in a news release.
From March until May, the service will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays and will rotate locations between Veterans Memorial Park or Senator Speno Memorial Park in East Meadow. From June to September, the town will increase the service to twice a week and rotate locations throughout communities within the town, according to the Town’s Department of Public Safety.
Appointments are required and are available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the designated days.
A complete schedule and a sign-up sheet is available at the town’s website. www.toh.li/content/cs/childsafe.html. A schedule announcing the June through September locations will be posted at a later date.
Appointments can also be made by calling the town’s Department of Public Safety at 516-538-1900 ext. 217.
