Hempstead Village plans to host a forum on preventing home foreclosure on Monday that will be open to all village residents.

The “Foreclosures and Your Options” workshop will be held at the Hempstead Public Library, 115 Nichols Ct., at 6 p.m. The event is presented by the village board, the Society for Financial Awareness, and SafeGuard Credit Counseling Services. Spanish-English translators will be available.

Speakers will cover topics such as the National Mortgage Settlement, which may have significant benefits for borrowers facing foreclosure. The panelists will also talk about measures residents can take to avoid foreclosure and how homeowners can learn to control their credit and debt.

Homeowners will also learn about the Independent Foreclosure Review, which will determine whether individual homeowners suffered financial injury and should receive compensation because of problems during their home foreclosure process. Homeowners who were involved in a foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010, may qualify for a free review.

For information, call the library at 516-481-6990.
