The Hempstead Village board at last week’s meeting approved hiring two contractors for up to $240,000 to help the village with repairs needed due to superstorm Sandy.

JKC, Inc., of Shirley, was hired for tree and stump removal, and Stasi Brothers Asphalt Corp., of Westbury, was hired for stump removal, concrete and asphalt restoration.

The board also approved the purchase of five new dump trucks with salt spreaders and plows for nearly $315,000 from Van Bortel Ford, Inc., of East Rochester.

The trucks are expected to arrive in early January, Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. said.
