Hempstead to hold disaster preparedness program

On the eve of the two-year anniversary of superstorm Sandy, Hempstead Town, the Village of East Rockaway and state officials on Tuesday will present a program to help residents be prepared for emergencies such as a hurricane or severe flood.
Officials including Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino, East Rockaway Village Mayor Fran Lenahan in a news release encouraged residents to attend the two-hour training session at the East Rockaway Village Hall, 376 Atlantic Ave. The event starts at 7 p.m.
New York State’s Citizen Preparedness Training Program is designed to educate neighbors about how to prepare for emergencies, while offering a forum for them to ask questions and gain access to valuable resources, officials reported.
All participants must register in advance at prepare.ny.gov or by calling the office of Assemb. Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook) at 516-561-8216.
