The Hempstead Town board has decided to postpone a decision on a petition from Neil Court Llc to rezone a 2.84-acre property, a former sanitation facility on the south side of Neil Court and Firemen’s Memorial Drive, from residential to industrial. The decision to postpone came a Tuesday's meeting. A new decision date was not set.

The applicant’s attorney had said at a public hearing in July that the owners hope to have service industry companies fill the planned 20 warehouse units with offices and one retail entity. Residents at the hearing expressed their opposition to the rezoning application, citing the proposed round-the-clock hours of operation and possible impacts on traffic and property values.

The town approved at the meeting a resolution authorizing a $2.03 million payment to 110 Sand Co. of West Babylon, for disposal of storm debris caused by Sandy. It also approved authorizing a $1.97 million payment to D&G Equipment Co., of Bellmore, for the purchase of a pump, generators and chain saws to enable the department of sanitation to provide clean up operations due to the storm.
