The Hempstead Town board will hold two public hearings on Tuesday about the preliminary 2012 budget, officials said.

The hearings will be held in the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion, adjacent to Hempstead Town Hall, 1 Washington St., at 2:30 and 7 p.m. The board must adopt a 2012 budget by Nov. 20. The board released the tentative budget last week.

The $414.8 million proposal, a 2.9 percent increase over the current $403 million, virtually freezes all town taxes. Town residents, including those in incorporated areas, would pay about $57.98 in general fund taxes for a home assessed at an estimated $941 — a reduction of 50 cents, officials said.

The average homeowner would pay the same amount as the current year in sanitation disposal, street lighting, parks, water, parking, fire and library district taxes. Highway and part-town fund levies also would stay the same.
