The Hempstead Town animal shelter will host two free educational tours on Saturday, May 19, to celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week.

The tours of the kennels will be given at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the shelter, at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh.

Shelter staff will also give lectures on how to take care of animals and what can be done to help homeless animals. Staffers will discuss how the animals come to the shelter, the adoption process, proper pet care and the shelter’s Pet Foster Program, town officials said.

All visitors who bring treats or toys for the shelter animals would be eligible for a door prize. There will also be raffles and baked goods for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Tails of Hope Fund, an organization helping to fund medical surgeries for dogs and cats.

For more information, call the shelter at 516-785-5220 or visit www.toh.li/animal-shelter.
