Hempstead Village workshop to educate on foreclosures

Hempstead Village will host a workshop on preventing home foreclosure Saturday that is open to all Long Island residents.
The workshop will be held at the Hempstead Public Library, 115 Nichols Ct., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is presented by the Office of New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and co-sponsored by a number of local elected officials.
The event will feature a panel of three foreclosure experts — Jane Azia of the attorney general’s Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau, Sandy Lieberman of the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee Inc., and Eileen Anderson of the Community Development Corp. of Long Island.
The speakers will cover topics such as the landmark National Mortgage Settlement, which may have significant benefits for borrowers facing foreclosure.
The panelists will also talk about the measures residents can take to avoid foreclosure on their homes.
The panelists are expected to respond to homeowners’ concerns during a question-and-answer period. Attendees will be able to visit a number of community, housing and governmental organizations that will have tables set up at the event.
