The strike by LIRR workers has left roughly 300,000 daily riders scrambling for transportation alternatives. It could also cause "severe congestion and delays," the MTA has warned, advising riders to avoid nonessential travel and work from home if possible.

A recent Newsday analysis found that some commutes into Manhattan could take twice as long.
