Fourth-graders at Old Country Road Elementary School in Hicksville celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on Thursday by incorporating science, math, history and literature concepts into the lesson.

They learned how to measure diameter by measuring across the length of an apple. They learned about the legend of Johnny Appleseed. The students watched an in-class demonstration of how to make applesauce and enjoyed tasting different kinds of apples and choosing which kind was their favorite.
