Oyster Bay Town, along with engineering and environmental partners, is to host a “public open house workshop” on Thursday on a state-funded brownfield study that seeks to revitalize properties in northwest Hicksville.
The workshop — from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Center — is to include a presentation on the Northwest Hicksville Brownfield Opportunity Area, or BOA, Step 1 Pre-Nomination Study, organizers said.
The study on about 1,100 acres and 21 potential brownfield sites was funded by a $76,050 state Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program grant awarded in 2009.
Organizers said the workshop is to also include discussion among the study team, residents, business owners and others on potential sites for revitalization.
Information from the workshop will be incorporated into the study to be submitted to the state.
The study team includes town representatives, engineering firm H2M, environmental planning firm Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, and “smart growth” nonprofit Sustainable Long Island.
