High School Athletes of the Week
Kris Moran, North Babylon, boys track: Won the 1,600 (4:29.89) and the 3,200 (9:35.00) and finished second in the 1,000 (2:41.76) to help North Babylon take the Suffolk III crown.
Jessica Gelibert, Bay Shore, track: Set a meet record in the 300, running a 41.60 to lift Bay Shore to the Suffolk League II title. Gelibert also won the 55-meter hurdles (8.72) and was the leadoff leg of the Marauders' winning 4 x 200 team (1:51.01).
Alex Harwood, Brentwood/Bayport-Blue Point, fencing: Went 3-0 in foil to lead Brentwood/Bayport-Blue Point to a 20-7 win over Newfield.
Jake Goldberg, Ward Melville, fencing: Went 2-0 in epee to lead Ward Melville to a 21-6 win over Half Hollow Hills.
Ryan Savit, Half Hollow Hills, swimming: Set a Suffolk diving record with a 344.76 score to lead Hills to a 94-84 win over West Islip.
Jacob Alexander, Plainview JFK, swimming: Won the 50 freestyle in 22.24 to qualify for state meet and led Plainview to a 61-41 win over Cold Spring Harbor.
Andrew Chin, Manhasset, swimming: He won the 200-yard IM in 2:20.08 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.89 to lead Manhasset over Massapequa.
Stew Warren, Lindenhurst, boys basketball: He produced a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a playoff-clinching 55-35 victory over West Islip.
Daniel Pierrot, St. Anthony's, boys basketball: Scored 35 points, including eight three-pointers, in a 74-70 loss to L.I. Lutheran.
Joe Loiacono, St. Anthony's, hockey: His two goals helped Friars beat Chaminade, 6-1, to clinch first in the CHSHL.
Adam Goldstein, Syosset, hockey: He had four goals and an assist in an 18-2 win over Port Washington.
Gregg Reed, Smithtown, bowling: Rolled his third 300 game of the season and had a 298 game in a 853 series.
Jessica Calandra, Patchogue-Medford, bowling: The junior, who had a 300 game this year, finished the season with a 222.4 average, breaking the single season record of 218.4, set in 2009 by East Islip's Ali Martin.
Valerie Oyakhilome, Lindenhurst, girls basketball: She had 28 points and 11 rebounds in a 48-46 win over Whitman.
Allison McKenna, Glenn, girls basketball: Had 27 points and 13 rebounds in a 50-30 win over East Hampton.
Christine Rivera, V. Stream Central, girls basketball: The senior had a career-high 26 points in a 59-47 win over Calhoun.
Lindsay Alfano, Hauppauge, girls basketball: Had 23 points, including five three-pointers, along with eight assists and five steals in a win over Hills West.
Jen Doppelt, Great Neck North, girls basketball: Had 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals and nine assists in 51-42 win over West Hempstead.
