Hills wins third straight Suffolk badminton championship

No. 1 Half Hollow Hills (15-0) defeated No. 2 Whitman (11-4) 8-1 to win its third straight Suffolk Girls Badminton Championship. This is Hills’ third consecutive undefeated season. The Thundercolts have won 45 straight matches dating back to 2009.

Hannah Finger defeated Carrie Simone 11-3, 11-2 at first singles. Finger finishes the season 15-0, her third consecutive undefeated season.

“The girls worked so hard this year,” coach Lisa Albert said. “It’s been wonderful to watch them improve over these last few years. They are great kids and they’ve earned everything they’ve gotten by working hard.”

Lauren Kiedaisch defeated Elizabeth Aiello 11-5, 11-7 at second singles. Kiedaisch went 14-1 at second singles.

Jackie Wirth defeats Emma Cordano 13-11, 11-7 at third singles for Whitman lone win of the day.

Samantha Derrison defeated Kayla Thomas 11-5, 11-8 at fourth singles. Leyna Rosen defeat Katherine McLaughlin 11-0, 11-4 at fifth singles.

Gina Augusta and Carly Cordano defeated Cassidy Donovan and Julie Bishop 15-2, 15-11 at first doubles. Augusta and Cordano finished the season 15-0.

Christie LoMonico and Carli Rumstein defeated Amelia Goodman and Lauren Kobel 15-4, 15-1 at second doubles. Carli Rumstein and Christie LoMonico finish the season 15-0 at second doubles.

Tanya Jane and Susan Zhang defeated Jackie McAllister and Jackie Colamari 15-1, 15-2 at third doubles. Corrine Golorgursky and Kristine Chacko defeated Megan Dauscher and Alex O’Toole 15-3, 15-5 at fourth doubles.

Finger, Kiedaisch, Derrison, Rumstein, Jane, Chacko and Paige Brandsdorfer make up Hills’ senior class.

“My seven seniors will be missed,” Albert said. “It’s gonna be sad to see them go. I’m very proud of them.”

The Suffolk Individual Championships will played on Wednesday (first three rounds) and Thursday (last two rounds) at Smithtown West at 2:00. There will 24 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing.
