Hockey gear swap meet in Dix Hills
The Town of Huntington Youth Council and Councilwoman Susan Berland have come together for the Dix Hills Ice Rink Skate Swap, which will take place Feb. 5 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
Through Feb. 2, people can bring used hockey equipment to the rink, located at 575 Vanderbilt Pkwy., and will receive a voucher for a similar item. The idea is for youth players who have outgrown skates or other equipment to get needed items without parents having to shell out, according to Matt Naples from the Dix Hills Ice Rink.
Suggested equipment includes helmets with face masks, shoulder pads, elbow pads, jerseys, gloves, sticks, shin pads, hockey pants and skates. Participants will be able to skate on the rink for free during the event.
Those who come are also asked to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Community Food Council, Inc. of Huntington Station.
For more information, contact Megan Lavery in the Office of the Town Council at 631-351-3018 or Naples at 631-499-8058.
