Homecoming parade back at Southampton High

Southampton High School will have its first homecoming parade after an eight-year hiatus.

Ann Marie Fullam, chairwoman and coordinator of the Mariner Athletic Club’s homecoming event, said many of the students have never been part of a homecoming parade.

“I just thought that was such a shame,” she said.

The parade will feature floats from the high-schoolers with a movie theme. Students from the district’s other schools will also march with banners and signs.

The parade starts at 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at Southampton Elementary School on Pine Street and Hampton Road, and will wind its way down Main Street, Jobs Lane, Windmill Lane, and Nugent Street up to Hampton Road. The high school floats will make its way to the high school where they will be judged on Narrow Lane.

After the parade, the Mariner Athletic Club Homecoming will hold a festival at the high school, including games, a blowup slide, food and sale of Mariners’ items.

The Southampton village has lent its snowmobile used for its outdoor concerts to the school for its “open mic” event.

The school will hold its annual bonfire after the festival.
