This might not have been a "must-win" game for Sayville.

But only two games and six days removed from a seven-goal loss to Hauppauge, yesterday's matchup against Eastport-South Manor came pretty close.

Madison Hoon had three goals and the Golden Flashes came back from a three-goal deficit to win, 12-10, in Suffolk Division II girls lacrosse.

"We wanted to come back against an opponent like ESM and get ourselves rolling again," Sayville coach Adam Sznitken said. "It's a very good team win."

Sayville trailed 8-5 with 16:00 left but tied the score at 10 on a goal from Hoon with 8:19 to go. Hoon scored again 34 seconds later to break the tie for the Golden Flashes (7-2, 6-1).

"I was very happy because six different kids scored in the second half, so they won a lot of the draws and controlled the ball as a team," Sznitken said. "They played one of the best halves I've seen them play."

Caroline De Luca's goal gave Sayville a two-goal lead with 6:48 to go. That was the game's final goal as the Golden Flashes played keepaway from ESM (5-2) for the next four-plus minutes.

"That was probably the proudest I was the whole game," Sznitken said. "They passed to the open girl and moved the ball for more than four minutes, which is a tough thing to do."
