Hoping to clean up with laundry website

Too busy to bring in or pick up your laundry or dry cleaning? Or maybe you're just too lazy!

Either way, Josh Niamehr, 24, of Roslyn, has come up with a solution, a website -- LaundryLocal.com -- that provides a listing of service providers who pick up and deliver, on your schedule. You enter your credit card number, and you're billed after the service is provided.

"On the consumer side, it's a scheduling and payment platform," Niamehr said. "On the business side, it's a lead-generation, customer-management and billing platform."

He started the website in August, and so far has about 400 customers. He earns about 10 percent to 15 percent on each booking, or an average of $4. There were no outside investors, and all Niamehr needed was a computer.

He got the idea while sitting in a friend's apartment on the Lower East Side and watching her fuss with about $300 worth of laundry.

"I thought there was a better way of doing this," Niamehr said. "People don't like to drag their laundry and dry-cleaning around. I didn't like to do my own laundry. I'm spoiled. I had someone come to my house."

Many of his current customers are in the New York City area, but Niamehr said he will be adding Nassau County providers this month.

"We're starting with Hempstead and a place on the South Shore," he said. The site is not yet profitable, Niamehr said. He predicted it will be next year, when orders rise to several thousand a month.
