Hot seat odds: Aaron Glenn favored to be first coach to go
Aaron Glenn is most likely to be the first NFL head coach fired this season, according to odds posted Monday evening by BetOnline Sports & Casino.
The Jets coach heads into his second season as a 2-1 favorite to be the first to get canned after going 3-14 last season.
The coach behind him with the best odds is already a former Jets head coach: Todd Bowles of the Bucs.
Bowles’ odds are much better (for him at least) 11-2. Interestingly, Glenn and Bowles will both be on the same fields this week as the Jets and Bucs hold joint practices in Florham Park. Both are likely to make it through the week, but obviously one never knows.
Here are some others near the top of the hot seat list which, surprisingly, includes some very productive names including four who have coached in Super Bowls and even one who won one:
- Zac Taylor (Cincinnati) 7/1
- Shane Steichen (Indianapolis) 15/2
- Brian Schottenheimer (Dallas) 10/1
- Dan Quinn (Washington) 12/1
- Nick Sirianni (Philadelphia) 12/1
- Mike Vrabel (New England) 16/1
- Kevin O'Connell (Minnesota) 18/1
- Dan Campbell (Detroit) 20/1
- Matt LaFleur (Green Bay) 22/1
- Robert Saleh (Tennessee) 25/1
The safest coaches according to the odds? That would be reigning Super Bowl champ Mike Macdonald of Seattle and Sean McVay of the Rams, both of whom are 500-1 longshots to be the first coach fired. Recently hired Giants head coach John Harbaugh comes in at what feels like a low 200-1 along with Jeff Hafley of the Dolphins. Andy Reid (KC), Jesse Minter (Baltimore), Klint Kubiak (Las Vegas) and Joe Brady (Buffalo) are all at 250-1 and Liam Coen in Jacksonville is 300-1.
