Hotel room aid for Sandy victims extended
New York State residents displaced by superstorm Sandy will be allowed to occupy transitional hotel rooms for another month.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Wednesday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a 28-day housing extension through the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program that was set to end on May 1. That deadline had been an extension from April.
"Nearly six months after the storm, this program continues to be an essential resource for Sandy victims who still cannot return home," Cuomo said in a statement. "This extension . . . will give more time to those without a housing solution to find one."
To be eligible for the program, survivors must first apply for federal assistance through FEMA by registering online or by calling 800-621-FEMA.
