Houston tumbles from unbeaten ranks
Austin Davis threw four touchdown passes and No. 24 Southern Mississippi ruined No. 6 Houston's perfect season and BCS bowl hopes with a 49-28 victory in the Conference USA title game in Houston Saturday.
Tracey Lampley caught two touchdown passes and Southern Miss became the first team to hold Houston, averaging more than 50 per game, below 35 points this season.
Houston's Case Keenum completed 41 of 67 passes for 373 yards and two touchdowns.
The loss dropped the Cougars (12-1) out of a bid to a BCS bowl, most likely the Sugar Bowl. That spot might now go to Oklahoma, Arkansas or TCU.
Oklahoma St. 44, Oklahoma 10: Joseph Randle ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns, Richetti Jones returned a fumble for a score and No. 3 Oklahoma State (11-1, 8-1) throttled No. 10 Oklahoma (9-3, 7-2) in Stillwater to win the Big 12 championship and earn a BCS bowl berth, likely the Fiesta.
Clemson 38, Virginia Tech 10: Tajh Boyd threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as No. 20 Clemson (10-3) routed No. 5 Virginia Tech (11-2) in Charlotte, N.C., to win its first ACC championship in 20 years. The Tigers will go to the Orange Bowl.
Wisconsin 42, Michigan State 39: Montee Ball's fourth TD of the night, a 7-yard run, gave the No. 15 Badgers (11-2) the lead with 3:45 to go and Keshawn Martin's punt return to the 3 was negated by a roughing the punter penalty with 2:40 left in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis.
TCU 56, UNLV 9: Greg McCoy returned a kickoff 99 yards and Kris Gardner had a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 12-second span as No. 18 TCU (10-2, 7-0) clinched the Mountain West title in Fort Worth, Texas.
Cincinnati 35, Connecticut 27: Munchie Legaux threw a career-high three touchdown passes and host Cincinnati's defense got two scores as the Bearcats (9-3, 5-2) shared the Big East title with West Virginia and Louisville. No. 23 West Virginia (9-3, 5-2) will get the conference's BCS bowl bid.
