Three budget-related resolutions sponsored by Huntington Town Board member Mark Mayoka were defeated at this week’s meeting.

Mayoka tried unsuccessfully to get them on last month’s agenda; board members said they needed more time to review his proposals. On Tuesday, the board voted down all three measures.

The first resolution would have required that board members have seven days to review bonding resolutions. At the meeting, Mayoka tweaked his proposal to say the review period would be a recommendation, rather than a mandate.

His second resolution called for the town to prepare two-year budget projections. Supervisor Frank Petrone said that’s what the town does now when crafting a budget — officials give estimates for the year they are working on and the following year.

Mayoka said he wanted projections for the budget being prepared and for the two years after that.

He also proposed a policy that would have required the interim town comptroller to prepare 5-to-10-year “highway equipment replacement plans.”

Board member Mark Cuthbertson said he thought the highway department already was doing that and, in any event, preparing such plans is not something the comptroller should be involved in.
