Huntington highway chief: Patience, please

Huntington Superintendent of Highways William Naughton sent out this message to residents yesterday, as the town fought to clear roads after the latest snowstorm in the past few weeks.

Dear Huntington Residents,

I would like to take the opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the residents of the Town of Huntington for their patience.

Town Highway employees and contractors together with the employees of the Departments of General Services, Parks and Recreation, Environmental Control, as well as Dix Hills Water District employees have been working tirelessly to deal with our significantly above average snowfall.

However, accumulated snow from each storm has made each subsequent storm more difficult than the last. Existing piles of snow and fluctuating temperatures make the job even more difficult. This latest storm provided approximately 16” of a very heavy consistency snow.

In spite of aging equipment and long hours causing employee and equipment fatigue, these dedicated employees and contractors are getting the job done.

I ask all residents to continue to be patient and know that we will continue to do the best job we can under the circumstances.
