Huntington Station housing, immigration forum
The Porter-Trejo Action Network is holding a public meeting 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Huntington Station.
Called The State of Our Community Summit, it will focus on housing, immigration and civil rights. Guest speakers include state Sens. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) and Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx), and Eric Alexander, executive director of the smart-growth group Vision Long Island.
Porter-Trejo Action Network is a housing-advocacy group that aims to bring affordable housing to Huntington Station as well as revitalize the community.
“We want people to come out so they can get involved as well as continue our goal of uniting the different communities that have long been separated by politics,” said Bazeel Walters, co-founder of the group. “We also want to highlight services available at Town Hall that some in the community might not be aware of.”
There also will be a bilingual voter registration drive.
The event is at Iglesia Luz De Salvacion, 1599 New York Ave.
