Hurricane seminar for Oyster Bay residents

Meteorologists and emergency management officials will lead a seminar next week on hurricane preparedness for Town of Oyster Bay residents.

The town’s Public Safety Department will host the program, scheduled for  7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center, 510 Grumman Rd. W., Bethpage.

Deputy Public Safety Commissioner Leonard Symons, who has trained at the National Hurricane Center, will provide tips and explain the town’s reverse 911 notification system for emergencies.

The program will also include a tour of the Morrelly Center, the modern 90,000-square-foot home to Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management.

“While Long Island has not had a significant hurricane in many years, complaceny is not an option,” said Town Supervisor John Venditto.
