Nick Hutchinson had six goals and an assist as St. Mary's topped St. Dominic, 11-2, Tuesday for the CHSAA Class A lacrosse championship at Center Island Park in Bayville.

Matt Atwell had 16 saves and Tim Ahern added three goals and three assists for St. Mary's (14-5), which will host the New York City PSAL Class A champion at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

"We split during the regular season," Gaels coach Matt Panetta said. "This was a nice win."

St. Dominic beat St. Mary's in the CHSAA Class A title game last year.

Panetta seemed most impressed with his team's defense.

"They had just one goal the first half," Panetta said. "Our defense just dominated."

St. Mary's led 6-0 after the first quarter and 7-1 at the half.

"We also dominated time of possession," Panetta said.

He noted the play of Brad Fischer, who won 15 of 17 faceoffs.

"We still have to win one more," Panetta said. "We still have to play the city team."
