Over time, this Fire Island getaway evolved into a family compound. It started in 1955 when Frank and Vera Feustel transported building materials on their sailboat, "Southwind" to the island to build the 1,500-square-foot cottage on Pacific Walk, right. It has four bedrooms and 21/2 bathrooms. Fast forward to 1998, when the couple's son, Noel Feustel, and his wife, Tori Petersen, purchased a 2,000-square-foot cottage on a conjoining property - Navy Walk, left. The couple restored the cottage. It has a two wraparound porches and a partial view of the bay. Eclectic in design, the cottage features stained glass, tongue-and-groove pine walls and high ceilings. It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both cottages have outdoor showers. The properties are set high and are surrounded by pine and holly trees. The bay and ocean are a short walk away.
