Wins is a category in fantasy baseball and often times a pitcher could be performing well and not get a victory. Many things beyond a pitcher's control such as run support, defense and a strong bullpen to hold leads are part of a pitcher getting a win.

Ask Madison Bumgarner. The Giants' lefthander didn't deserve a win in the month of April with a 6.17 ERA. Since then, Bumgarner has been terrific, however, he may have been cut by someone who can't get past the 2-8 record.

Bumgarner has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last nine outings and not more than three in any of the nine games. In that time, he is 2-5. In 14 innings in his last two starts, he has allowed 15 hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out 13 in two losses. In 78 innings, Bumgarner has a 59/23 K/BB ratio, 3.23 ERA, and 1.31 WHIP. If an owner is dwelling on the 2-8 record, get him on the cheap.

Chris Carpenter (Cardinals, SP): Carpenter (1-5) went through a stretch in which he allowed 66 hits in 45 2/3 innings. The ERA was 4.88 on May 20. Even when he pitches well, the run support is lacking. Carpenter is someone to buy low. He has a 7.12 K/9, 2.23 BB/9, 4.25 ERA, and a high .333 batting average on balls in play (BABIP). A 3.44 fielding independent pitching (FIP) ERA shows he's been unlucky.

Ryan Dempster (Cubs, SP): With a 5.96 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 13 home runs allowed, why am I saying he's a buy? He has an 8.44 K/9, 3.26 BB/9, .326 BABIP, and a 1.46 HR/9. The home run rate is .47 above his career average.

Mike Moustakas (Royals, 3B): Hit .287 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 55 games before getting the call. Moustakas might start slowly, but with third base being a tough position to fill, take the chance.

Dee Gordon (Dodgers, SS): Gordon is extremely fast and will be the regular shortstop with Rafael Furcal injured. Gordon doesn't draw many walks, but is a career .299 hitter in the minor leagues. Gordon will certainly help those in need of stolen bases and middle infielders aren't easy to find.

Freddie Freeman (Braves, 1B): Freeman batted .312 with two home runs and nine RBIs in May and .310 with five RBIs in June. The power is still developing for the 21-year-old.

Nyjer Morgan (Brewers, OF): Morgan will get most of the time in center for the Brewers and he's batting .338 in 71 at-bats. Stolen bases and runs are what he brings hitting in front of Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder.

Jemile Weeks (Athletics, 2B): Weeks hit .321 with a .446 slugging percentage in the minors this season, but it did come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He doesn't strike out much and draws walks. Expect a good average and some steals. Add in AL-only leagues and consider in deep mixed leagues.

Ben Revere (Twins, OF): Good source of speed in AL-only leagues.
