Injured Peyton Manning won't play Sunday vs. Bears
Ailing Peyton out Sunday
Peyton Manning won't practice this week or suit up Sunday against the Bears. Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said he'll start Brock Osweiler as he tries to get his struggling 39-year-old quarterback healthy.
Manning had the worst game of his career in Sunday's 29-13 loss to Kansas City. He completed 5 of 20 passes for 35 yards with four interceptions for a 0.0 passer rating. He has a torn plantar fascia in his foot, a source said. He also has a sore right shoulder and a rib-cage injury.
NFL: Refs' error aided Jags
The NFL acknowledged that the Jaguars should have been penalized on the play before their winning field goal Sunday. Although the Jaguars were not set before hurriedly snapping the ball with one second left, officials allowed the play to be run. If they had thrown a flag, a mandatory 10-second runoff would have ended the game.
The Ravens' Elvis Dumervil grabbed quarterback Blake Bortles' facemask while making a tackle, giving the Jaguars a final play with the clock at 0:00.
Reports: Saints fire Ryan
Saints coach Sean Payton has fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and promoted Dennis Allen, according to multiple reports. The Saints gave up 130 points in their last three games.
Around the league
Jeff Fisher said Case Keenum will replace Nick Foles as the Rams' starting quarterback . . . NFL.com reported that Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford (concussion, non-throwing shoulder) is out two games. Mark Sanchez will start.
