Is bad weather on the way or is the forecast wrong again?

Long Island has been under some kind or other of storm forecast for the last few days, and other than record heat, bad weather has failed to materialize.

Sunday is no different when it comes to possible dire outcomes: There's a riptide advisory for all the South Shore and the National Weather Service just issued a tornado watch for Nassau and Suffolk and the rest of the metropolitan area until 8 p.m.

If the forecast is wrong again (80% chance of rain, tornadoes or not), quite a few high school baseball players will be very happy.

As for the records, Friday it was 84 at Long Island MacArthur Airport, a new historical high. On Saturday, the high of 88 degrees shattered the previous record of 85. So far in June, temperatures have been 10 degrees higher than normal.

Once the cold front goes through Sunday night, we can expect temperatures to fall back to levels normal for this time of the year, and good old-fashioned June rain by the middle of the week. Check out the forecast here.
