Mineola-based food bank Island Harvest received a $15,000 grant from a retailer for its post-superstorm Sandy work.

Island Harvest is one of 10 nonprofits nationwide to receive the $15,000 “Helping Communities Rebuild” grant from Walmart.

The Food Bank for New York City is the only other New York-based nonprofit to receive the grant.

The effort is part of the retailer’s 12-day-long holiday campaign, in which it plans to give $1.5 million to 140 groups nationwide that provide essential services such as food and medical care.
