The Town of Islip netted $79,415 from an auction last month of abandoned vehicles, town officials said.

The town auctioned 147 items that were seized in the last year by town code enforcement officers.

The items included cars, boats, motorcycles, trailers, kayaks and a mobile home, said town officials, who said the items were abandoned by their owners.

The town made attempts required by law to return the property back to its owners, but the items weren’t claimed, according to town officials.

“We give people the opportunity to get them back,” said Councilman Steven J. Flotteron. “They’re in our impound yard, but it gets to a point where we have to clean up the yard.

Most of the vehicles sold for an average price of $500. The most expensive item, according to Flotteron — a 2003 Honda that sold for $6,700.
