Islip Town residents can now access property information — assessed property value, acreage, current tax exemptions and the property’s garbage, sewer, and school districts — via a new tool on the town website.

The function on the town's website is a response to new state requirements for posting tentative assessment roles on municipal websites.

“Hundreds of people request property information from the town every year, whether they are shopping for a new home, looking to open a business, or simply inquiring about their own property information,” Supervisor Phil Nolan said in a statement.

The new function should help homeowners and businesses get the information they need, he said.

Previously, Freedom of Information Act applications were required for towns to release the information, town spokesman Kevin Bonner said.

The town is also working to add an online search function so residents can find information about services such as garbage pick-up and recycling schedules for their property, and street sweeping schedules, so owners can move cars from the street before the sweeper arrives.
