Islip reappoints airport consultant

The Islip Town Board has voted to appoint a retired NYPD officer as a consultant on security at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
Thomas J. Coffey worked as a police officer and a union delegate in Midtown South Precinct for 20 years before retiring in 2010.
After a unanimous board vote Tuesday, he will receive $30,000 for a year’s work, providing “security consulting” at the airport, according to the board resolution. There is an option to extend the contract two years. The scope of his services or compensation can be increased or decreased by mutual agreement.
Coffey joins three other contracted former law enforcement officers in similar positions, and like them will report to airport Commissioner Teresa Rizzuto.
