Islip street renamed for radio pioneer Marconi

The Guglielmo Marconi Lodge 2232 in Islip got a new address today without even having to change locations. Members of the lodge successfully petitioned the Town of Islip to rename the section of Moffitt Boulevard where their building is located to Guglielmo Marconi Way.

"It allowed us to change our address from 333 Moffitt Blvd. to 333 Guglielmo Marconi Way," lodge president Robert Necci said.

Town and county officials were at the lodge this morning for a rededication ceremony at which they unveiled new street signs.

Necci said the members of the Order Sons of Italy lodge were filled with pride over the street renaming because of the importance and relevance of the work of Marconi, an Italian radio pioneer.

“He's the namesake of our lodge,” he said. “He was a great inventor. He led the world in communications.”
