Islip town board approves apartment complex at the former Oakdale Golf Center

The developer of a proposed 109-unit apartment complex on the grounds of the former Oakdale Golf Center received the green light from the Islip Town Board last week.

The project includes three- and four-story buildings with rental apartments at the site, on the south side of Sunrise Highway and west of Oakdale-Bohemia Road.

The development includes a clubhouse and a pool and up to 250 parking spaces, according to Timothy Shea, attorney for the developer, OGC LLC of Woodbury and Queens-based Pickman Realty Corp.

The town board unanimously approved the project's change of zone application at a zoning hearing Thursday.

The project was first submitted to the town in 2008 as 48 senior condos and 82 nonrestricted units. The project was later changed to 109 rental units.

After the hearing, landowner Steven Willner said he was thrilled with the approval.

"I'm glad that we're able to get it passed through the town, and we're going to proceed in finishing the designing of the units and hopefully be in the ground in about a year," he said.

The board also unanimously approved change-of-zone applications for a Bay Shore project to build 30 apartments at the corner of North Clinton Avenue and Mechanicsville Road; a Bay Shore project to build 32 apartments at the corner of North Clinton and Lee avenues; and a Great River complex of 80 senior apartments at Sunrise Highway near Connetquot Avenue.

The board also approved plans to build a leasing office at a Central Islip apartment complex at the corner of Hawthorne Avenue and Motor Parkway.
