1. Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative march
The same route that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. traveled in the late '60s when he visited Long Beach will be retraced by paradegoers in honor of Martin Luther King Day Monday (he would have been 84 on Jan. 15).
The Martin Luther King Community Center in Long Beach, which has been helping local residents affected by superstorm Sandy, sponsors the event.
After the march, a keynote speaker will deliver a "Through Unity There Is Strength" speech, followed by a free buffet luncheon (open to the public) at the center, 615 Riverside Blvd.

3. 'Live at Birdland'

4. Masters of Illusion -- Live!

5. Film screening
As part of the "Out of the Movies" series at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, "Cloudburst" is being presented by the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The film stars Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker as an aging lesbian couple who escape a nursing home in hopes of getting married legally.

6. Monster Jam
You won't be able to ignore Monster Mutt, El Toro Loco and the Grave Digger as they take control of the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam at Nassau Coliseum for a weekend of nonstop races and competitions. If you want to make a pit stop before the show, a $10 pre-party ticket gets you an up-close look at the trucks and their drivers. Pit stops are 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

9. Snowflake rally
Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines for a timed rally that marks your speed and distance for a trophy.
