Fast-rising Seth Ryan
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich had a feeling that Seth Ryan would be a good fit for his staff. But Reich said Ryan, the Jets’ first-year passing game coordinator, has “exceeded expectations.”
Ryan worked previously with the Chargers and Lions and under some people from Reich’s past, including Nick Sirianni and Shane Steichen. Reich said he and Ryan “instantly connected from a schematic and philosophy standpoint.”
Reich leans on Ryan sometimes for game-planning and in-game situations, asking him his opinion based on what he’s seeing from the defense. Reich has been really impressed with Ryan’s defensive acumen. It’s no surprise. Ryan’s father is former Jets head coach Rex Ryan and grandfather was Buddy Ryan. They were both excellent defensive coaches.
“We're at a point right now where I have complete confidence in him helping, leading with the game planning, in-game, asking his opinion between series or whatever,” Reich said. “He's got a fast, quick mind. He understands football at a deep level. He understands - we all know why - but he understands defensive football. Like he really understands defensive football, and that really helps us.”
