THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $108,918,239 for the 2010-11 school year, a 3.5 percent increase from the current $105,232,204. The tax levy would increase by 3.92 percent from $94,728,823 to $98,445,239.

Citing complications in assessment figures used to calculate the tax rate, district officials would not say what effect the tax increase would have on the average house. The proposed budget includes a 3.5 percent salary increase for teachers, plus a scheduled step increase. The district has tentative plans to cut four elementary teaching slots and two at the secondary level, one in English, one in speech.
