Jessie Kurz, the Nassau County Scholar Artist for January is a photography student from George W. Hewlett High School

Jessie Kurz is a photographer from George W. Hewlett High School who strives to turn her passion for creating images into a lifelong profession. She derives inspiration for her photos from her surroundings and beliefs.

For her AP portfolio submission Jessie submitted a concentration concerning teen suicide. Her efforts paid off when she received the highest score possible. Other honors include the 2011 All County Art Exhibition Achievement Award, the Advanced Visions 9: High School Artists of Excellence "Most Expressive Work of Art” 2012 and the Congressional Recognition: Congressional High School Art Competition 2nd Place. In addition to her artistic achievements, Jessie was inducted into the National Honor Society and is active in her school community. Known as the “school photographer”, she can be found at many events. She serves as the Photo Editor for Hewlett High School's newspaper, Spectrum

Jessie Kurz will continue her success as a part of the incoming freshman class at Washington University in St. Louis, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts.
