Jets don't hit the ground running
The Jets had trouble running the ball in Friday night's 17-0 preseason victory at Pittsburgh. They rushed for only 62 yards on 24 carries for an average of 2.6 yards. Rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik accounted for 16 yards on one scramble.
“Our run game wasn't where it needs to be,” Aaron Glenn said. “We've got to take a good hard look at that and make sure we clean that up.”
The Jets didn’t have their top back, Breece Hall, who was out with a groin injury. But his backup, Braelon Allen, only had 4 yards on three carries running behind the starting offensive line.
Kene Nwangwu rushed seven times for 11 yards with the backups.
“It just comes down to execution and it's something we weren't fully there and on it last night,” starting right guard Joe Tippmann said. “We just definitely didn't get it done last night. That was through all three groups and all the O-lines that went in. There's plenty of stuff that we can learn from. There's plenty of situations and kind of just assignments that we can kind of do a better job of executing.”
