How does one build on what has already been a fantastic season?

Carle Place's Joanna Koronios is in the process of figuring that out right now.

The senior thrower won the Nassau Class A discus title with a distance of 139 feet, 2 inches Wednesday. It was a great throw by most standards, but Koronios wants more.

She set the Nassau record earlier this season with a toss of 150-6, besting her previous county mark of 141-0 set last season.

"I have high goals for myself this season," Koronios said. "I've been slowed down a little by my [left] foot, but I've increased my plyometric exercises to work on my speed."

The season is far from over for Koronios, who seeks a state title. "I feel this is only the beginning," she said.

It was another big day for North Shore as Brianna Nerud, who set the Long Island record in the 2,000 steeplechase in 6 minutes, 40.8 seconds, helped lead the Vikings to the Class A team championship with 116 points, ahead of Valley Stream North (103) and Clarke (53).

It was the sixth straight county crown in two years for the Vikings, who have won the indoor and cross country titles the last two seasons and the 2010 Class A spring title.

Other standouts for North Shore included Samantha Nadel, who won the 1,500 (4:39.5) and 3,000 (9:33.7) and Emily Osman, who won the 800 (2:19.8).

In other Class A races, Manhasset's Emily Easton won the 100 (12.6) and 200 (25.5), Clarke's Nicole Hertzberg won the high jump (5-4) and Cold Spring Harbor's Hallee Henze won the pole vault (9-6).

Uniondale made it back to the top of the Large Schools, winning the Class AAA championship with 119 points. Massapequa (97) took second, followed by Syosset (42).

The Knights were paced by triple winner Britney Webley, who took the 100 hurdles (14.4), 200 (26.1) and 400 hurdles (1:04.0). Monique Mitchell won the 800 (2:17.2) and Tawanda Francis (17-2 3/4) took the long jump title.

Other Class AAA champs include Hempstead's Noveka McKay in the 100 (12.4), Oceanside's Katie Ryan in the 1,500 (4:55.4) and Freeport's Danielle Martin in the 400 (56.2).

Garden City came out on top in Class AA, winning the title with 183 points. Hewlett (75 1/2) and Westbury (73) were second and third, respectively.

The Trojans' Michelle Rotondo won the 100 hurdles (14.9) and 400 hurdles (1:01.7), Taylor Hennig took the 100 (12.6), and Emily O'Neill and Stephanie Gerland won the 1,500 (4:52.3) and 3,000 (10:46.0), respectively. Emma Gallagher was also a double winner in the 400 (55.6) and 800 (2:13.6).

Elmont's Valencia Hannon wasn't pleased after a false start in the 100 semifinal disqualified her from the event, but she made up for it later, running to a win in the 200 (25.1).

South Side's Liz Textor won the high jump (5-6 1/2), and Hewlett's Vanessa Pierre won the long jump (17-7) for the fourth straight year.
