Job fair looks to help unemployed veterans

Assembs. Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook) and Edward P. Ra (R-Franklin Square) are sponsoring a job fair Friday, March 16, at Molloy College for veterans in need of employment.

Despite being designed for veterans, the job fair will be open to the public, Curran said. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Molloy College’s Kellenberg Hall, on 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre.

“Our collective national obligation to our veterans extends further than a guarantee of proper medical care and educational opportunities,” Curran said in a statement, adding that the state unemployment rate for post-9/11 veterans returning from overseas is 13.1 percent. “We must also make sure that they are not disproportionately affected by a bad economy and high unemployment rate.”

More than 70 employers are expected to attend, including banks, airlines, retail stores, auto repair shops, universities, home health agencies, and manufacturing, pharmaceutical, transportation, financial and insurance companies.

The event will also provide classroom seminars on resume writing, interview techniques and job search resources.
