Job training workshop for 'hard-to-employ' to be held in Hempstead

The ABBA (Able Bodies of Believers Alliance) Leadership Center will be hosting a job readiness and life skills training workshop for hard-to-employ men and women from Hempstead Village.

The nonprofit faith-based community group will host the event at the Judea United Baptist Church, 83 Greenwich St. in Hempstead, on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The workshop is to help prepare local residents with criminal records who are looking for a second chance. The hope is to get them work within the construction industry, especially with projects such as the Hempstead Village downtown redevelopment project under way with master developers Plainview-based Renaissance Downtowns and Manhattan-based UrbanAmerica Advisors, organizers said.

Invited speakers include representatives from trades and labor unions, parole and probation officers, and local developers.
