John Green of Bay Shore struck, killed by car, police say

A man running across a Bay Shore street Wednesday night was struck and killed by a car, Suffolk County police said.
John Green, 57, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead after Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance transported him to Southside Hospital, police said.
Green was hit at about 8 p.m. as he attempted to run east across Fifth Avenue near Brook Avenue, police said. The car that hit him, a 2001 Hyundai Elantra driven by Marie Brandflu, 65, of Central Islip, was heading south on Fifth Avenue, police said.
Brandflu and a passenger were not injured, police said, and the car was impounded.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
