Join Brahma Kumaris in a meditation hour
Imagine a web of positive energy encircling the globe. That is the hope of Brahma Kumaris across the world as they join each third Sunday of the month in an hour of meditation. The Brahma Kumaris' Global Harmony House (46 S. Middle Neck Rd., Great Neck) participates in this meditation for world peace and world healing.
"There are more than 6,000 centers worldwide with more than a million BKs meditating," says Sister Dorothy Steinfeld, retreat director, referring to the practice that began in 1978. "You don't have to know how to meditate. Prayer and meditation are similar. We believe that just sitting in peace for an hour will help as this energy stretches out into the world."
You don't have to bring a yoga mat or prayer blanket, just wear comfortable clothing and maybe bring water to sip if you think you'll need it. Those meditating either sit in chairs or on the floor. "It is about the meditative thoughts," Steinfeld explains, "but it is also about the healing vibrations. Ever walk into a room and it feels like the people in there are very tense -- or really calm? That's the energy of that room. We want people to understand that what they put out, they are the first and the foremost affected by that energy."
