Joint Bethpage venture in homeland security

The first corporate marriage to come out of the new Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage is to be celebrated Thursday.

Balfour Technologies Llc, the first company to sign a lease to move into the center, and Power Management Concepts have formed a joint venture called VCORE Solutions, to seek commercial contracts in the building management industry.

Balfour designs a four-dimensional browser that allows users to view multiple pieces of information on a single screen. Power Management has a software product that manages heat, light power and other systems in buildings.

"We decided to combine our intellectual talent," said Eduardo Browne, Power Management's executive vice president and chief executive of the joint venture. Scott Meyers, Balfour's chief operating officer, said the joint venture will "go after all opportunities."

VCORE is focused on homeland security technologies for incident commanders, first responders, police, fire, security and property management personnel.

Ray Donnelly, a director of the center, said the joint venture is the first to be formed since the facility opened earlier this year.

"This is what the Homeland Security Center is all about - economic development," Donnelly said. "We expect a fertile pace of development" from companies at the center, which Donnelly said is close to "full capacity." There are now 14 companies headquartered at the center. Northrop Grumman Corp., an anchor tenant, has a homeland security operation that occupies the center's entire top floor.

The joint venture was formed a few months ago, but the companies are not merging.
